The ALMA (Aotearoa’s Large-scale Multi-Agent simulator) platform is a globally significant innovation, pioneering the first comprehensive, population-level digital twin in New Zealand. This sophisticated, AI-driven replica of the real world integrates data from over 30 national sources to create a dynamic, interactive 3D model of Aotearoa New Zealand, encompassing its health, environment, climate, and population dynamics.

ALMA’s Core Innovation:

• Synthetic Population: At its heart, ALMA features a synthetic population of over 5 million virtual citizens, each with a rich set of attributes and realistic “life diaries.” This allows for detailed behavioural modelling without compromising individual privacy or data sovereignty.
• Advanced AI Integration: The platform leverages cutting-edge technologies like Generative AI, Large Population Models (developed in collaboration with institutions like the MIT Media Lab), geospatial data science, and sophisticated time series forecasting.
